A homage to all the ladies from the 1970s to the first decade of the new millennium who were sophisticated enough to button up a long leather coat over an elegant outfit and strut their stuff. Sleek leather coats disappeared from mainstream fashion for a while, but their popularity may be on the rise once more. This page is dedicated to those who hope that such classic style finds its way back into women's wardrobes again someday.
This is what we love about leather. The journey from the carcass to the beauty of the long leather coat. It is not a journey many vegans will enjoy but it is the journey into beauty. What we see is the beauty bequeathed to us by the slaughtered cow. It will have been skinned and gone through the tanning etc. Just that small description is enough to deter the vegan but for those who love leather it is a poetic journey. For we leather lovers appreciate the sacrifice the cow has made for us. We know that the leather coat is a special offering. We know that the cow is being given a greater life. We will wear it with pride. The sheets of leather sown together prove the beautiful long black leather coat as worn above. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing the leather from the back. The garment flows in all it’s beauty and flaps loudly as the wearer walks forward. We find the look and sound intoxicating. It is that the cow as acquired a second life. A second existence. As admirers of the long leather coat we are happy to enjoy such an experience as it stimulates our senses and it is one of the most beautiful things for a woman’s wardrobe. Sadly vegans will disagree but we know we are right. The long black leather coat is our right.
OMG you could mot be more wrong. I am a vegan but love all types of animal skins. It is my firm belief people have choices. I also believe it our choice to culturalise and commodify animals into beautiful artefacts for our use. That can be cows, sheep, alligators, crocodiles, pythons etc that make beautiful clothing such as long leather maxi coats, handbags, thigh boots, leather scarves, hats, gloves etc. Most of the leather clothing made from the afore said animals is a byproduct product of the meat .industry. This makes it a lot easier for vegans and vegetarians to ease their conscience in consuming animal skins to wear such as the long leather coat. So many do not have or perceive a conflict of interest in wearing leather to a vegetarian restaurant. I personally love being covered in head to toe leather in such settings.. I love the way I get attention from other diners as my leather shines under the restaurant lights. The sheer creaking sound of it as I move is a real thrill as one is aware of the effect on other diners, especially men, as it gives me a thrill that is a real turn on. My boyfriend loves me dressed in layered leather on such occasions, especially when I wear the prized floor length leather maxi coat he bought me.
I would extend the use of animals to fur coats of which I have several. They a clearly not a byproduct of the meat industry. It is knowing the animals, whether Lynx, chinchilla, fox etc have actually been bred for their pelts. that creates a crisis of conscience for many vegans and vegetarians. It really does not for me. I find it disgusting and disheartening that the anti fur brigade have been so successful at campaigning and banning fur farms. Not only have they shut down whole industries, family firms, workers livelihoods, denuded the fashion industry of style and glamour they have destroyed individual choice, rights and responsibility. resulting in a very woke society based on animal rights. What of the rights of individual consumers, choice, fashion and fashionable choices. They are being denied.. I love to wea furs. It is my right, choice and responsibility to spend my income on things that are beautiful. Fur coats are beautiful. As aremany animal skins.
My concern is, having removed choice from wearing fur and making one who wears fur an object of social opprobrium, will the woke crowd seek to make wearing leather the same object of derision and destruction. We all know there is no such thing as ‘a good death for an animal’ but they are served a longer existence if we wear their skins after their death. I also think it is moral and ethical to breed minks, rabbits, chinchillas etc just for their pelts. It is by such breeding we can keep threatened species such as leopards in existence and free from extinction. Breeding keeps animals alive.
Be aware I am aware of an animal’s suffering but that should not stop us using them for fashion and other artistic purposes. We owe them that when we use them. It is that we use animal skins to such purpose that makes wearing them humane. As a vegan it is a legitimate stance to take.
We should celebrate wearing leather. Do not let the anti-fur brigade become the anti-leather brigade. We have had so much fun taken out of our lives by the woke animal rights activist movement do not let them do that to our beloved leather. Especially not our essential black long leather maxi coat . It is a fashion statement that should, as Hayley Beiber, has suggested, should last forever.
As a vegan I believe the animals journey into another existence is one of supreme beauty when they become a coat to be worn as a fashion statement.
