Checking in

Hello to all who follow this blog page.  I hope you find something meaningful here.  Blog pages are rapidly becoming an antiquated means of self-expression on the Internet, but I am content to keep this quiet little page going.  If blogging is meant to be a means of demonstrating one's passion for something then this page serves that purpose for me.  The Internet is a cold, lonely place to interact with people, or seek responses.  But, it is an avenue for bringing like-minded people together.  The stats for this web page indicate a small, but steady following of viewers.  I see the photos I share here posted on other sites like Flickr.  So I know that I am reaching people out there.

Bottom line is; I would collect the pictures I post and write the stories I publish whether anyone ever saw them or not- so I continue to do so.  Be well folks and continue to daydream...

Introducing "The Cameo of Aveline"

Daydream for pleasure’s sake, fervent reader, of a beautiful woman; a gorgeous lady of sleek feminine sophistication who may have strutted past you on a city sidewalk sometime between the last quarter of the twentieth century and the first decade of the new millennium.  She poses a striking silhouette with a big black hat cocked glamorously upon her dark flowing hair and a sweeping coat of gleaming black leather buttoned close about her statuesque figure.  Her ivory complexion is ageless, her sable eyes dazzle, and the smile on her sensual red lips is irresistible.  Poised, brilliant, and intimidatingly self-assured, she is a capricious heartbreaker adored by men and envied by women.  A gypsy, a ballerina, a baroness, a scholar, a secret agent, and lately an entrepreneur; her career has been far-flung.  She introduces herself as Maxy Coates, cosmopolitan owner of an upscale antique shop in Manhattan.  Within the popped collar of her blouse a Victorian pendant glimmers on a strand of pearls, bearing the portrait of a mysterious young woman carved upon a carnelian gemstone.  It is the Cameo of Aveline; the one clue to her forgotten past, and her search for its provenance takes her around the world.  From ancient ruins to eastern bazaars to high-class auctions she ventures, her high heels clicking with seamless aplomb.  Many priceless treasures does she hold in her gloved hands, but only when the secret of her jewel is in her grasp will she ever be satisfied.  Follow the lady in the leather coat now as she swishes away on a voluptuously rollicking escapade.

NEW STORY: The Star of Ascania

This is the first of several short stories I hope to publish featuring Maxy Coates.  I was a fan of pulp fiction style magazines and graphic novels as a kid and I have long envisioned a female character of my own to write stories about in a similar style.  Maxy is meant to be a dynamic character.  She embodies my feminine ideal and I imagine her having a silhouette as instantly recognizable as Indiana Jones or James Bond.  I hope that readers find this story fun and quick-paced, punctuated with an ample appreciation of the leather-coated lady, but driven by plot.

Please note that while this story is set in a real location and references historical people, it is entirely a work of fiction written for entertainment.

I welcome any comments or critiques.

The following is an excerpt from "The Star of Ascania":

He snapped the jewelry box shut loudly and waved it at her with his massive right fist.

“I will have the money.  But, if you want this brooch... you must give me your necklace also.”

“No,” she refused emphatically.

“That is not part of the deal.  If you refuse to accept the contract price there will simply be no exchange.”

He stuffed the brooch back inside of his coat.  Then he stepped forward to hulk monstrously over her slinky black leather figure.

“And what is to stop me from simply taking the money and sending you back empty-handed?” he threatened domineeringly.

“That may not be as easy as you think,” she responded intrepidly, clutching the attaché to her side tightly.

Her pluckiness clearly annoyed him.

“Do not waste my time, fräulein If you do not want to get hurt I suggest that you put your necklace in the bag and hand it over.  Now!” he ordered in a booming voice.

She did not cower, nor did she obey his command.  Fiery spirit sparkled in her gorgeous sable eyes as she looked up to meet his glare directly, her face framed by the notched collar of her leather coat and the curved brim of her hat.

“Excuse me, mein Herr,” she replied with bold sarcasm.

“I don’t know how you treat other women, but nobody forces me to do anything!”

An ugly frown wrinkled his stern visage.

“Typical American woman,” he spat.

“You need a man to put you in your place!”

He emphasized his chauvinistic insult by smacking her on the butt.  The meaty palm of his hand struck her toned, shapely backside with a palpable leathery splat.

She gasped aloud and promptly slapped him across the face with her gloved right hand.
