She really likes this outfit whether you do or not

So I just discovered this fascinating woman the other day.  Her name is Louise Linton and she is married to the US Treasury Chief.  During a visit to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in November 2017 she was encouraged by her husband to pose with him in photographs holding newly printed money- thus revealing the amazing outfit she was wearing in the photos below.  Wow!
I suspect that the photographer would not have taken a full-length shot if she was not in it wearing that long leather skirt.
She obviously has no problem vamping it up and her husband looks like a very happy man.

Live action footage of the event can seen here

I write this post for two reasons.  First; if she rocked an outfit like that with such aplomb I bet she has worn some long leather coats as well and no doubt looked gorgeous in them.  Second; it frustrates me to no end that such an exquisite woman has been the target of so much scorn from the press.

Louise comes from a wealthy Scottish family that owns Melville Castle.

She moved to LA, worked as an aspiring actress, and earned a law degree before marrying Steve Mnuchin.  This article about her from 2011 is rather nice https://www.pressreader.com/uk/the-herald-magazine/20110219/281479272900952  It was written before everything became so divided by politics and social media.  Now that she is married to a cabinet member under the current US president's administration it is quite perilous for her to show off that she is a rich, beautiful woman who enjoys a privileged lifestyle.  https://www.elle.com/culture/career-politics/a15895367/louise-linton-march-2018/  She got raked over the coals for flaunting her designer outfit while exiting a US government plane in August 2017.

And yet, she then appeared completely undaunted in those elbow-length leather gloves and that long black leather skirt.  Haters blasted her full force on social media, of course, comparing her to everything from a Disney villain to a Sith lord https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/16/steve-mnuchin-louise-linton-mocked-posing-dollars

The derisive comments toward her leather ensemble echo my ongoing concern that women's leather fashion from twenty years ago is not coming back into mainstream style anytime soon.  But, I am thrilled to see that there is a lady like Louise Linton who is not ashamed to strut her stuff.  She is a well-bred, jet-setting socialite who does not apologize for her opulent existence, nor should she.  Her honesty about how she presents herself, even if snobbish at times, is refreshing.  I actually admire her for it.

"I need to be more stylish,” she is quoted.

“I look at amazing fashion icons like Jackie O and I’m like, why can’t I wear gloves?”

She continued on to explain, “I just didn’t bother taking the gloves off because it was kind of cold in the bureau. And I didn’t expect that I would be pulled into a picture!”

Her long leather gloves and black leather skirt apparently still hang in her closet, and she has commented about them since.

“I really hope someday I can wear that outfit again,” she said.

“Because I really liked it.”

Carry on Ms. Linton.  Carry on.  But, please button up a long black leather coat over that outfit next time and dazzle us all the more!

  1. Probably this noble lady has even her own personal maid to take care of her wonderful wardrobe and to help her getting dressed.

  2. I fully endorse your comments in defence of Louise Linton. She was born with beauty and into wealth. Not many people would want not to be either. Sadly she lost her mother at fourteen to cancer. An awful thing for any girl. Louise has fought against that awful event and made a success of her life. Clearly the previous two factors have been an advantage for her in developing a successful career. The very negative comments on social media are dreadful.
However in regards to the wonderful leather ensemble she is wearing it is clearly awesome. The leather gloves complement the long leather maxi skirt and belt stupendously. Louise has no need to defend her decision to retain them throughout her visit to Fort Knox. As she says gloves make for a classy outfit as exemplified by Jackie O. It is here Louise was right to keep them on in assisting her husband at the event. To have removed those beautiful long length leather gloves would have been a fashion faux pas. They whole outfit would have been thrown into disarray.
That she had the presence of mind to retain them is instinctive of someone of her class and breeding. To make mockery of this is just spiteful and clearly motivated by jealousy and social inferiority. Louise should have ignored her trolls and critics. That she did not do so is regrettable but humanly understandable. History will forgive her.
She must be remembered for her exquisite beauty, breeding and class. Most importantly for her exquisite fashion sense shown in this well matched and coordinated black leather fashion ensemble. Leather is so beyond the understanding of many that the fail to understand how beautiful leather as a fashion statement can be. That is their loss. Louise continue to be dignified and wear mote leather. I hope four years on you have been able to wear this outfit again . I just hope like the author of the original post here you teamed/team it with an equally equisite long black leather maxi coat and matching leather fedora as the ultimate fashion statement. That would really get the critics going. That really would be super duper on all fronts.
