A treat to start off the holiday season

I came across this while having my morning coffee and had to share it immediately.  I also showed it to my wife as evidence that her leather coats are back in style and she needs to wear them!   Liz Hurley models this leather coat for Karen Millen https://www.karenmillen.com/us/leather-structured-collared-belted-coat/BKK06019.html

Are long leather coats actually popular in women's fashion again?

I pose the question:  are long leather coats actually popular in women's fashion again?  Personally, I would answer no they are not - at least not in the way that they were when I was a young man in the 1990s.  Since going out of fashion sometime after 2008 it has been a rare treat to see an attractive woman wearing a leather coat in public.  My wife has been a beautiful exception to this trend over the past decade, flourishing a black leather maxi coat mostly at my request when we go out on dates in cold weather.  However, I can honestly say that she is the only woman I have seen buttoned up in a classic long leather coat since 2017!  If we believe what the fashion experts tell us the long leather trench coat has been the "must have" piece of outerwear since 2019.  Unfortunately, I have not witnessed this as commonplace reality.  I realize that I spend long hours cooped up in an office, so I don't see the city sidewalks anymore like I did years ago.  Maybe there are women strutting their stuff in leather coats again that I do not have the opportunity to behold.  With the way COVID has shifted office jobs to working from home, though, I doubt it.  Sidewalks probably do not bustle with the mass of business people they once did.  Likewise, shopping malls are going extinct.  So not only are stores like Macy's, JCPenney, and Wilsons Leather no longer there in brick and mortar to walk into and buy a leather coat, but the women who once shopped in these places wearing leather coats are not there as well.

Is my perception of this wrong?  Are women like my wife as rare as I think?  Is the lady in the leather coat so exclusive that she is only seen among the fashion elite now?

The face and form of leather coat beauty

This is one of the very first pictures of a lady in a leather coat that I ever collected from a catalog; maybe *the* first.  It is also one of my lifelong favorites.  The woman's beautiful face and the style with which she wears the leather coat struck me as utterly sensual and sleek.  I was 10 years old and the page came from the 1983 JCPenney Christmas catalog.  Sometime a couple years later this beloved page was lost in the mysterious void that childhood possessions vanish to.  It remained nothing but a fond memory for about 35 years.  I searched for it on the Internet for more than a decade without success.  Then in November 2021 I found it on a website of catalog scans!  Not only was I overjoyed to rediscover an old favorite picture, but I also made the surprising realization that the model was Rene Russo!  I had been in love with her since I was a boy and didn't know it.

Incidentally, this is the very image I am describing on the book cover in Chapter VI.  Leather Coat Desire of Spellbound with a Kiss.

Jennifer Love Hewitt 2003

I came across this photo from a movie called Shortcut to Happiness that was shot in 2003 and released 2007.  Jennifer Love Hewitt plays The Devil in this box office bomb that I have never seen, however I happened to discover some photos from it a couple months ago.  My wife was told many times that she looked like Jennifer Love Hewitt back then, and when I saw the original picture below I was struck by how true this was.  I used photoshop to change the color of her leather coat to black, similar to one my wife used to wear.  And wow!  She looks like a film version of my wife!

Maxy Coates update

I appreciate those of you who have asked about upcoming stories featuring my character Maxy Coates.  Be assured that I continue to develop her ever so slowly in words and pictures.  Unfortunately, I still struggle to capture her leather-clad adventures in writing.  She is in my imagination constantly; if for no other reason than my wife is my chief inspiration for her.  However, the creative fire that used to urge my story-writing no longer blazes as it once did, but rather it smolders.  Stress, responsibilities, and fatigue wreak their toll on me, but I will never stop my efforts to bring Maxy's story to sleek, sophisticated life.  Her tale is an epic that I hope to see through, even if it takes me decades to do so.
