As I was gift shopping during the holidays sometime before 2003 I was in the men's outerwear section of a department store one afternoon. I searched the racks, hoping to find something for one of my family members. A voice at the cashier's counter caught my attention. There was a tall woman in her fifties asking the clerk for assistance. She looked wealthy and had a demanding tone in her voice. She was plump with a thick waist, large breasts, and wide hips. She carried her weight well, though. She was buttoned in a long black leather coat. Her leather coat fit on her rather tightly because of her full-figure. Even the coat sleeves fit close to her round arms, with little room for creases. The leather coat strained over her body. It creaked sharply with her every movement, as if it were ready to burst open at the seams. Her top coat button was open, and the collar gapped open wide around her large bust. Clutching the strap of her purse she asked the clerk if they sold leather jackets for men. Apparently she liked leather coats and wanted to buy one for her husband.
A homage to all the ladies from the 1970s to the first decade of the new millennium who were sophisticated enough to button up a long leather coat over an elegant outfit and strut their stuff. Sleek leather coats disappeared from mainstream fashion for a while, but their popularity may be on the rise once more. This page is dedicated to those who hope that such classic style finds its way back into women's wardrobes again someday.
